A Clawfoot Tub for a Designer Bathroom

Choose any home and you will see all sorts of modern and contemporary pieces and appliances. There is no getting away from it, because our lives feel meaningless without our smartphones, computers, tablets and flat screen televisions. However, it takes a little bit of the charm away from a home, making everything look clinical and modern. Once upon a time, homes were truly unique and beautiful and this is something many of us are trying to get back to. For many, this starts with a single room. One option you have available to you is to start with your bathroom, by installing a clawfoot tub.

The Clawfoot Tub and Designing a Traditional Look

Remember how you used to feel when you went into your grandparents’ house? You will probably remember it looked classical and homely. They didn’t have overpowering gadgets, but made their homes look beautiful through details. And they paid a lot of attention to their bathrooms, creating a truly luxurious look and feel with a clawfoot tub. Indeed, this is the most traditional of all bathtubs and you an easily emulate this in your own home. It is a simple design, but very pleasing on the eye.

Styles of Clawfoot Tubs

It is important that you look into the style of the clawfoot tub you are considering. Look for the construction material to start with. Many of these tubs are made from cast iron. This is so heavy that you will find it nearly impossible to lift it to your bathroom. Additionally, there may be a concern about the floor being strong enough to carry the weight of the bathtub and the weight of the water itself.

Next, you need to think about the style of the top of the bath. Your choices include dual, roll top or dual slipper. The feet can also be different. For instance, there are lion paws, ball and claws, skirts and imperial pedestals. It is up to you to decide which type will look best in your own home.

If you are really aiming for that true vintage look, then you should choose a cast iron model. These can be changed in color by painting them so that they match the overall look. However, as stated, they are incredibly heavy and really can’t be placed on a second floor. Another problem is that cast iron is not particularly good at retaining heat. However, cast iron is incredibly strong and durable, which means it can last a lifetime.

Your other option is to go for acrylic. This is very easy to install and move it about. Because it is also lightweight, you can easily place it in a second floor bathroom. Furthermore, acrylic is a really good insulator, which means that your water will stay nice and warm for a longer period of time.

These are just a few things to think about if you want to install a clawfoot tub in your bathroom. Also consider the faucets you want to use to really pull the look together.
