Santorini – The Volcano Island

Traveling is one of the most enriching and rewarding experience in life and the tourism industry has developed to an unbelievable extent. The most beautiful and interesting places on Earth have become popular travel destinations for thousands or millions of travelers each year. Among these places, some are so unforgettable and unique that most visitors fall in love or dream about them all the time.  One such destination is the fascinating island of Santorini, a favorite for people around the world who saw at least a picture with the unforgettable sunsets over the traditional white Greek villages, above the incredible volcano. The island cannot be described in mere words or simple facts, as the experience of visiting is worth a thousand times more. Also known from ancient times as Thera or Thira, this is truly one of the wonders of the world, associated by some with the mythical Atlantis.

Frozen in Fire: Exploring the Enchanting Volcanic Remnants of Santorini

The island today is what remains from one of the biggest volcanic eruptions in history, the villages being perched atop a volcanic ridge in a spectacular manner. The main island and the other smaller one are part of a much bigger one, the eruption crashing the center area under the sea in what must have been a catastrophic event. This specific feature propels Santorini into the list of the world’s top ten travel destinations.

Visitors stand amazed at the sheer force of nature and the incredible determination of humans who ingeniously constructed captivating towns and villages above the sea in what appears to be a precarious manner. Either admiring the volcanic cliffs dotted by white villages from the sea, or admiring the sea from the height of the houses is one of the most treasured experiences in the world. The towns and villages of Fira, Firostefani, Oia, Megalochori, Mesaria and others make for perfect destinations, most still preserving their unique Greek charm, with white and blue houses, cobblestone streets and traditional taverns.

Explore Beauty, Beaches, and Romance in the Aegean Sea

You can discover all of these on the deep blue background of the south Aegean Sea, with Santorini Accommodation also featuring several beaches. Although pretty small, these beaches make up in incredible beauty and charm, like the black pebble beach of Kamari, the idyllic beaches of Perissa, the shallow water beach of Monolithos and many others. The islands also feature some interesting cultural landmarks, including monasteries and small churches, traditional fishing villages or archaeological vestiges.

There are also plenty of short boat visits and cruises to the nearby islands, filled with natural and cultural attractions. Santorini, like almost all Greek islands, is a fantastic gastronomic destination, with delicious recipes and traditional ingredients, such as the white eggplants, fava beans, capers or goat cheese. The famous Santorini wines perfectly complement all of these options, and visitors can sample them at the island’s excellent restaurants and traditional taverns. In the last decades, this memorable island has also become one of the best romantic destinations in the world, a perfect wedding and honeymoon destination, with enchanting and heartwarming experiences.
