UK Motorhome Travellers Find Potholes a Problem This Festival Season

Potholes throughout the UK are risking damage to UK motorhomes according to Claims Journal in this week’s edition. The government has given plenty of funding to local councils to make repairs but the ever increasing amount of cars travelling the roads in the UK, coupled with the long winters are causing the roads to deteriorate all over the country.

Motorhomes are particularly vulnerable to damage by potholes with regard to their tires, tracking and suspension. The Cambridge City Council is leading the way with a project that sets out to make the necessary road repairs. They’ve hired “The Dragon”, a Swedish company that repairs potholes. The process used involves the technique of “breathing” fire right into the pothole, which makes the repair quickly and easily.

Due to the prolonged winter last year, the number of potholes across Cambridge saw an increase of 700%, bringing the total to 25,000. This is an indication of what is going on clear across the UK. So when you’re travelling about this summer, be aware of potholes, make sure that you have your tires inflated correctly and if you do hit a pothole with your motorhome and sustain damage, make sure that you take photos right there on the scene, document the exact location and make a report to the local authorities as soon as possible.

If you attended the Glastonbury Festival this year, you’re most likely a fan of motorhomes or caravans! According to the Caravan Times, approximately 25% of those over 50 years of age, planning on attending music festivals this season, will bring their motorhomes and caravans and camp out! This is all according to a study done by Saga Motorhome Insurance! The results of their survey show that 20% of those over 50 plan on attending at least one of the music festivals in the UK this summer and they are will camp out in their motorhome or caravan. Of those camping, 10% will lodge in their motorhome, and 14% plan on camping in their caravan.

Saga Motorhome Insurance claims that the popularity of the “staycation” has skyrocketed in the past few years. Now that we’re in the midst of music festival season, there is no better way to delight in a British summer tradition than travelling to these events in your motorhome or caravan. It’s like having your home away from home.

The advantages of using your motorhome or caravan for lodging are plentiful when it comes to attending the summertime music festivals; you have the convenience of a private toilet, and shelter from the rain should there be a downpour with no wet tents to bother with.

So if you’re travelling to any of the summer festivals in your motorhome or caravan, have a wonderful time.
