2 Lies People Tell Themselves that Keep Them From Traveling

Almost everybody wants to travel, to get out of a comfort zone and see the world. Those of you who don’t want that, you’ve got to start living right. Travel is as important for a well-rounded life as education and friendships. At least I believe that, after having been to 80 different nations, before my 34th birthday. I’m not some trust fund kid, though if you are, I make no judgments. It’s important to get overseas any way you can, or enjoy the country you’re in. The reasons people give themselves for NOT doing this are normally really lame reasons. I’m going to dismantle three such reasons that I hear from people all the time.

  • I Can’t Afford it. Blah blah blah. So don’t go to Malta. Take a bus and get somewhere you’ve never been in your own nation, where they eat different food and have a different accent than you do. But that’s the easy way out. The real traveler lives to travel. We meet people online who clue is into savings opportunities. I’ve met people who have let me crash on their couches in many different countries, just so long as they can do the same at my place when they’re in my part of the world. One savings opportunity I learned about recently I will pass onto you. Corinthia Hotels are some of the nicest in the world, positioned everywhere you want to go. But they’re normally out of my budget, except during their annual sales event, which is going on now. I’ve already decided where I’m going, so I thought I’d let you pick out a luxury destination spot for yourself, for way less than normal. Watch travel sources like this, and you’ll catch savings when they happen. Same goes for flights, buses, and eating spots.
  • I Can’t Take the Time Away From My Situation. Then change your situation. If work won’t let you off for 2 weeks, get another job. I quit my job before my first trip and never looked back. Of course, I was able to make some money online, remotely, eventually. But in the meantime, I had to make money a lot of ways. I taught English classes in Spain for 6 weeks on that first trip, then started freelancing anywhere I could find an internet connection. That’s what I do now, renting out my room back home. For people with kids or established careers, this will be more difficult, but don’t get discouraged if you can’t get away from months at a time. Make you week long vacation epic in its scope.

There are other reasons people mention for not traveling, but those are the big two. And really, they’re two sides of the same coin. Break these down, and you are one big step closer to having the travel life of your dreams. Good luck!
