If you’re in the process of planning a luxurious, once-in-a-lifetime holiday or vacation, where are you currently considering? The Maldives? Hawaii? California? There’s every chance you’ve considered all these and more, as well as possibly a luxury cruise, however one destination which we’re fairly sure you won’t have thought about looking into is the Turks and Caicos Islands.
What & Where Are The Turks & Caicos Islands?
The Turks and Caicos Islands are situated some 550 miles South East off the coast of Miami, Florida, just below the Bahamas and to the East of Cuba and consist of 40 islands and cays. The interesting fact for those previously unfamiliar with these luxurious islands is the fact that only eight out of the 40 are currently inhabited, making way for fantastic opportunities to explore and spend time on remote, desert islands. To us, there’s nothing more luxurious than spending time on luscious golden sands next to turquoise waters and not a soul in sight! OK, whilst there may be the odd soul in sight on your excursion, if you’re looking for a peaceful, relaxing and simply stunning vacation, you could do far worse than enjoying these wonderful islands.
Where To Base Yourself?
With eight of the 40 islands and cays inhabited, you’ve certainly got a little bit of choice when it comes to where to stay, however by far the most popular of all is Providenciales, known by the locals simply as ‘Provo.’ Providenciales is the most advanced and modernised of all of the eight inhabited islands and it’s here where you’ll find the majority of the resorts (more on these in a moment) alongside restaurants, spas, shops and a whole host of other ‘attractions.’ It’s also here where you’ll find most excursions to other islands leave from, both by air and by sea. You’ll find that international flights land at Providenciales International Airport and that there’s regular flights from a number of destinations across the USA including Miami, New York and Atlanta. Of course, if you’re travelling from outside the USA, you won’t struggle to find flights to these hubs where you can change. As an example, you can travel from London to Providenciales with a change at Miami in just under 11 hours (including the change).
Above all else, however, you’ll surely want to know that Providenciales offers one of the world’s best beaches (as awarded recently by TripAdvisor) in the form of Grace Bay Beach and, perhaps unsurprisingly, this is where you’ll find the majority of the island’s resorts. If it’s sun, sea and golden sands you’re looking far, albeit in the midst of palm trees, turquoise waters and a classic Caribbean atmosphere, you really can’t go wrong with a stay on the TCI.
On That Note – Which Resorts Would You Recommend?
If we were asked to recommend only one resort, it would always be Alexandra Resort, one of the best value of all of the Turks and Caicos resorts. Here, you’ll find a competitively priced yet impressive on offerings resorts, allowing you to experience everything which these luxurious islands have to offer as soon as you step out onto the sands. With some of the island’s most stunning spa’s, restaurants and bars on-site, you can’t go wrong and, as far as we’re concerned, it’s one resort which offers everything!
