Recently I had the chance to visit Belgrade, the capital and largest city of Serbia. In the 1990’s the city went through a bunch of chaos and turmoil, but it has bounced back, becoming a cultural and tourism center for the country. I was drawn to the region because of the unique culture and history, and I wasn’t disappointed. Belgrade boasts some of the best recreational opportunities, nightlife, cafes and museums in all of Europe, and it truly is a gem of a city to visit.
Belgrade’s Hidden Oasis: Ada Ciganlija Escapade
One of my favorite places that I visited was Ada Ciganlija, an island that has been converted into a popular recreational center. The area is unique because while it lies smack in the middle of the city, you would never know once you’re there. It feels like a little oasis and with thick forests and tons of outdoorsy things to do. I personally loved the trails that snaked the island, and I rented and rode a bicycle up and down for hours just enjoying the scenery. I really liked seeing the little floating villages too, made up mostly from weekend houses of wealthy homeowners.
It was completely unique and unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The new cable-stayed Ada Bridge is also stunning and is a really cool architectural component to the skyline. I would definitely recommend visiting Ada Ciganlija, especially if you need a break from the city life or love recreational activities. There are more sports and activities available there than you could possibly enjoy in one trip from rock climbing to tennis, skateboarding, basketball, golfing, skiing and snowboarding in the winter and swimming in the summer. I spent a lot of time here and it wasn’t nearly enough, this area of the city is a perfect place to visit.
Belgrade Nights: Party Mecca and Culinary Delights
Another highlight of my trip, and one of the main reasons I chose to travel to Belgrade, was the fabulous night life. This city is a mecca for clubbing and partying with most parties not even starting until midnight. But that’s not a problem, there are a ton of really wonderful little cafes and restaurants that you can hang out in before the night gets started, and honestly a coffee to wake you up before the party starts isn’t a bad idea. Plus you’ve got to try a local rostilj which is grilled chicken wrapped in bacon and filled with cheese.
I really loved going to clubs that played traditional Old Town music and had live DJs, and it was really easy to find live music playing pretty much every single night. Clubs offer cheap drinks, and the people here party hard all night long. The energy in the clubs is intoxicating. My personal favorite clubs were the floating river clubs located on the Danube. They were not only fun to go to but also stunning. The beautiful lights reflecting on the water were the perfect setting for a party. It was something truly special to see. If you like to party, this is the city for you.
Overall my trip was really fabulous. I enjoyed a delightful mix of nighttime entertainment and outdoor adventures. Exploring museums, cafes, and taking city tours, I immersed myself in the rich history and vibrant culture. As part of my journey, I secured a brief apartment rental. Feel free to contact Milos from Rent Apartmani Beograd for all the essential details. Instead of a hotel, and I may never go back. You ended up saving money, and you had extra space, including a kitchen for quick meals. This made you feel quite settled in the new place. I felt more like I was at home than stuck in a stuffy hotel. Belgrade is a unique city, full of fun and surprises. Traveling here is safe, exciting, and a wonderful experience. Put Belgrade on your travel bucket list.
