Copper Canyon

One of the world’s most spectacular train rides takes you through the breathtaking Copper Canyon! Experience Mex-ECO Tours takes you on a 6 day, 5 night tour through this area filled with history, culture and amazing views! Departing from Puerto Vallarta and Melaque, we fly from Guadalajara to Los Mochis and begin our train ride on day 2 in the colonial town of El Fuerte. Enjoy night one in El Fuerte in the company of the legendary Zorro!

From El Fuerte we travel as far as Bahuichivo, where we then take a ride by bus to the town of Cerocahui to learn more about the Tarahumara culture (the indigenous culture of the Copper Canyon area, known in English as the ‘Running people’), including a visit to a Tarahumara girls home and a tour to the viewpoint for the Urique Canyon, the deepest part of the Copper Canyon system. We board the train again in Bahuichivo on day three and head to one of the most jaw dropping viewpoints of the canyon, Divisadero! Here we stay in the Hotel Posada Barrancas, where each room has s view over the canyon – enjoy the spectacular sunrise!

The tour also includes visits to the flying rock (Piedra Volada), where you can enjoy a scenic cable car ride into the canyon, or get the adrenaline pumping with a zip line tour into the canyon! From here we head to Creel and other local sites of interest, including the Valleys of the Frogs and Mushrooms! Day 5 of the tour takes us from Creel to the Mennonite camps of Cuauhtémoc, before continuing on to the city of Chihuahua for a great city tour and another delicious dinner!

Our return to Puerto Vallarta/Melaque on day 6 depends on flight times – but for afternoon flights there is time for an optional tour to the caves of Chihuahua (approximately $15 USD).
