Haunted hotels have been a draw for tourists looking for a spooky experience for many years. Since the explosion of paranormal shows on our screens, the popularity has grown even further. If you would like to sleep in a haunted room, or simply hear about the ghosts that haunt the corridors and rooms, you can do so, with many full service hotels offering exactly that! A lot of hotels don’t actively promote their ghosts, but the ones that do really are a treat.
If you’re a true paranormal enthusiast, then I can’t protest enough of the amount of fun you’ll have at these haunted hotels:
The Plains Hotel, Cheyenne, Wyoming
The Old West style Plains Hotel in Cheyenne, Wyoming, is a draw to guests throughout the year, particularly during the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. The hotel isn’t just a stop for regular tourists, it’s a hotbed for those interested in the paranormal. According to reports, the most famous of the ghosts at the hotel is Rosie, a heartbroken newly-wed who found her husband in bed with another woman on their honeymoon. In a fit of jealous rage, she shot them both. On her return to her honeymoon suite she killed herself. The spirits of the three of them have been known to frequent the hotel’s corridors. Rosie is known to haunt the honeymoon suite, where laughing and crying has been heard.
The Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, Colorado
Famous for being the hotel that inspired the author Stephen King to write The Shining, the Stanley Hotel, in Estes Park, Colorado is one of the most haunted hotels in the country. The ghost of a little boy in the hallway playing was sighted by King and has been witnessed by several guests. The is also a host of other activity throughout the hotel, with rooms 418 and 407 being particular hotspots. The past owner F.O. Stanley and his wife, Flora are reported to have stayed behind after their death.
Myrtles Plantation, St. Francisville, Louisiana
As featured on most of the popular paranormal TV shows, the Myrtles Plantation is widely known as one of the most haunted places in the United States. Dating back over 200 years, the building has a lot of history, that includes suicide, murder, and desperation. The most popular ghost of the plantation is Chloe, a slave girl who was hung on a tree outside the house after poisoning the young children of her owner by mistake, as she intended to kill him.
Ghosts of slaves have been seen throughout the grounds and they’ve been known to make contact with people asking them if there are any chores to carry out! Children have also been heard running up and down the corridors playing.
