There’s nothing like the feeling of summer fast approaching. And here it is again folks… the glorious days of summer!
Time to go for a jog and remove that skin from your chicken so you can fit well into that bathing suit. And of course its time to make you plans to head to the shore. What better place than the Gulf Shore region – where two states collide to form a virtual playground of outdoor activities.
In this area between Orange Beach, Alabama and Perdido Key, Florida it would be tough to find a place on planet earth more replete with fun for all ages. From Tiny Tim to Grandma Murphy this little seaside chunk of dirt has it all.
While sitting on the beach chilling with a brew or working on bronzing the epidermis are both great things to do, when the more adventurous side of you is ready, there’s not a better outdoor summer activities than Parasailing.
For those who do not know, Parasailing, (some call it Para-Kiting or Para-Gliding) is a recreational kiting activity where a person (or persons) is towed securely behind a boat whilst attached to a specially designed canopy wing that reminds one of a parachute, known as a parasail wing. Typically you “FLY” between 500 and 80 feet in the air and the views are stunning! Plus the feeling of being that far up is a real blast. Plus the Parasailing company can “dip” you in the water from time-to-time and then sky-rocket you back up to your birds-eye view again. Doesn’t get much more exciting than that, now does it?
These days most Parasailing providers have the proper equipment to be able to take you and others tandem-style. Meaning they can take a single person flying or two and sometimes even up to three. What fun can be had when you fly with your crew. And don’t forget to ask about photo packages – you’re going to want to capture these memories— and your sister Sally’s excited expression!
It’s important to choose a reputable the Parasailing company that practices safety above all else. While there have been some concerns expressed about the safety of Parasailing I have looked up the statics and Parasailing happens to be one of the safest outdoor activities you can engage in. Especially with the improved parasail canopy designs, proper Parasail-specific boats and specially trained Parasailing Captains, it makes for a great mixture of fun and frolic.
It’s a good idea to inquire how long your chosen Parasail company has been in business and how long they have been specifically offering Parasailing. Also query them about the training they do for their Parasail Captains and Coast Guard rating and certification. And confirm that they do regular maintenance on their equipment and boats. And if they are ‘proud’ members of the Water Sports Industry Association. And if they keep abreast of the latest from the Parasail Safety Council that’s obviously a huge plus.
All in all I could not recommend Parasailing more. I love it, do it every chance I can and Love to take others along for the ride. It’s a thrill, reasonably priced and if you’ve not done it yet it’s a Must for that bucket-list! See you at the shore, that is!
