Gap year is a fun period in students’ life and especially if it involves traveling to another city, state or country, it’s an unforgettable experience. But if you are a girl, you may face many questions and concerns regarding your safe and smooth travel. Even you too may be worried about many things. But remember that gap year is a period to enjoy and have fun, and not to keep worrying. However, there are some things you may like to keep in mind well.
Travel Light
Let’s face it, we gals have a habit of packing our best costumes wherever we travel. But in case of gap year, especially if you are going out for over a year, remember that at your destination you are going to get many new clothes (plus other shopping) which will add to your luggage. In such a case, if you don’t have much of luggage while leaving your home, you will find it easy to manage things. This doesn’t mean that you should not carry any of your nice dresses, but keep them limited to as small in number as possible. New ravishing dresses can be bought at the new place too.
Don’t Forget Essentials
Though you are advised to pack light, you are advised to carry some essentials, no matter how bulky they are, e.g. warm clothes. Even if you are going to a warm country, it may be pretty cold at night, so better be equipped with your sweaters or shawls. Other essentials are insect repellants, sun-protecting creams and lotions, moisturizing creams, medicines you need off and on, e.g. your headache pill, antiseptic creams, etc, and all such things which you cannot do without.
Jot Down Details
This is not only for girls but for everyone who is looking forward to get a great job in future. Your gap year experiences will add a special touch to your resume. Keep a habit of writing details of the day when you are about to retire to bed. If you think of writing everything after returning to home, you may forget important details by then. In future, when you will write your resume, you can add some of these experiences to it according to the post to which you will be applying. And even while sitting on the hot seat of interview you can share these experiences to impress the interviewers.
Be Alert, Yet Cheerful
Not only being a girl, being an outsider in a new country, be alert always. But that doesn’t mean that that you should be always in doubt. If you do, you will soon lose all the fun and will feel homesick. You have taken gap year for learning new things, meet new people, and see a new world. So be cheerful!
