Staying true to the Victoria Hotel brand personality, every Victoria Hotel showcases the unique flavours and cultural tapestry of the locales in which it is situated. In this case, Singapore Victoria Hotel, located in the eastern region of Singapore, reflects the strong heritage of the surrounding Joo Chiat and Katong district of Singapore.
Strategically located within 15-minute drive from Changi International Airport, Central Business District and Orchard Road, Singapore Victoria Hotel offers an immersive Peranakan cultural experience since it is surrounded by beautiful antique shop houses that are inherited from past generations filled with Straits Chinese carvings, which guests should take time to explore. Few of the shops even sell Peranakan clothes, food and items related to the Peranakan lifestyle that now attract tourists to Katong, especially those from Malaysia due to affinity and closeness in terms of culture.
Established in 2013, influences of the Peranakan can be clearly seen from almost every angle of Singapore Victoria Hotel.
The touch of Peranakan brilliantly and outstandingly complements the property’s interiors, replete with beautiful antique ceramic designs and decorations.
Singapore Victoria Hotel consists of230 smart and minimalistic guestrooms, all of them given the personal touch of Peranakan influence. Customised Peranakan style mosaic are installed in the guest rooms to evoke the Peranakan atmosphere. Each room also comes with an antique ceramic tea set that can be used by guests when staying at the hotel.
Like any other Far East Hospitality rooms, rooms at Singapore Victoria Hotel promise a convenient and comfortable stay. Rooms are equipped with basic facilities like television with local and international channels, free Wi-Fi access, iron, safety box and bathroom with bathtub, among others. We personally love the fact that the rooms also possess USB port for us to plug our iPhones and play our favourite playlist out loud.
Since Singapore Victoria Hotel is a smoke-free and being a Village Hotel, guests can expect to be greeted with the unmistaken lovely scent in their rooms, which is customised and distinctly made according to the personality of each Village Hotel. After a tiring day exploring Singapore or after a weary travelling experience coming from overseas, there is nothing better than being welcomed to your hotel room that smells pleasant and soothing to relieve you of your exhaustion.
‘Typically Katong’ is the tagline of Katong Kitchen, the restaurant located on Level 4 of Singapore Victoria Hotel that features modem and eclectic Peranakan decor to suit Singapore Victoria Hotel’s personality. Katong Kitchen amazed us with its huge gastronomic selection, ranging from Nyonya, Macanese, Asian and Chinese to western, in order to suit various taste buds. Laksa, satay and ayam buah keluak are the favourite dishes found in Katong Kitchen, including its long array of mouth-watering desserts. Muslim guests will be pleased to know that Katong Kitchen is the first Victoria Hotel brand’s restaurant to receive halal certification from the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore.
Singapore Victoria Hotel also provides meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 150 people at a time; the Peranakan Lounge (where guests staying at the Club Rooms and Suites can enjoy their drinks throughout the day and even do their work at a comfortable workspace with Internet access); gymnasium and swimming pool.
Guests staying at Singapore Victoria Hotel are also entitled to enjoy the free shuttle service to and from Big Splash, which departs every hour from 8:40 a.m. until 10:40 p.m. daily. Although seats are subject to availability and on first-come-first-serve basis, the free shuttle service to Big Splash allows Singapore Victoria Hotel guests the chance to experience indoor mini-golf, cycling or savouring seafood at Singapore’s best seafood place, The Seafood International Market & Restaurant, located within the Big Splash premises.
Singapore Victoria Hotel is also connected to a mall that consists of nail and hair saloons, clothing stores, convenience stores and cafes.
In short, Singapore Victoria Hotel is an amazing hotel surrounded with exciting attractions that can be explored within walking distance and is accessible via public transport links such as the future Eastern Region MRT line and East Coast Parkway. Great location, professional and friendly staff, comfortable room, delicious food at Katong Kitchen – the strong points that make up the property seem endless.
