Sooner or later most people have to do some sort of work travelling, whether it’s for training, a conference or something else. While business travel can sometimes be hectic, it doesn’t have to be. If you make a good plan ahead of time then your trip will run smoother. In fact, you might even have a little bit of fun on it.
Whether or not this is a business trip that is being funded by someone else or you run your own business, the following tips can help you make the most of your trip.
Plan a Schedule
Book your rooms and ways of travel ahead of time to ensure that you get where you’re going when you’re supposed to get there. Keep track of flight or bus numbers, as well as your room number. If there are other people accompanying you on this business trip you may also want to have their room numbers recorded for easy access. You should also have all the information for the venue you will be meeting at. There’s nothing worse than getting lost in a strange city.
If you’re planning on a pretty hectic business schedule it can help to pencil in time for sleep, which is a very important thing to get if you want to be at the top of your game. You may also want to schedule in some fun and possibly some fitness, which we’ll talk about in a little bit.
Have a Checklist
Your travel checklist just might be the most important thing you have for your trip. It is the one thing that will help insure you don’t forget anything important. While you can purchase a toothbrush or comb when you get where you’re going, you won’t be able to replace any paperwork you’ve left behind.
Your checklist should include the basics, like clothes and toiletries. However, you also want to make sure you have all of technology items and business related stuff. Don’t forget chargers. No matter how you are travelling, pack a small snack bar in your purse or carry-on bag. You don’t want to run out of energy before you even reach your destination. Check and double check your list before you leave home.
Don’t Forget to Be Healthy
Last, but definitely not least, don’t take time away from being healthy just because you are busy with work. As mentioned previously, schedule in a little fitness time. If you’re lucky, your hotel probably has a gym, or at least a pool. Even if you only have twenty minutes to spare, get some physical activity.
Don’t skip meals either. While you might be really busy with work meetings and planning, you still need to give your body the sustenance it needs to keep going. You won’t impress anyone with your growling stomach at the board meeting.
