- Hire a Boat – There are many charter companies in the region that will rent you a boat for a day both with and without a captain. Taking a boat out for the day is the best way to explore the coast and see the many islands in the area. You can also rent fishing and snorkelling gear to make the most of your time on the sea.
- Shopping – Playa del Carmen truly is a shopping Mecca. Avida Quinta is the main shopping area and is made up of hundreds of small shops selling an array of goods. Bargaining here is expected, so it’s a good place to pick up some cheap souvenirs.
- Aktun Chen – Aktun Chen wildlife park is made up of lush jungle and is a great place to spot spider monkeys. The main attraction is the underground caves where you have the chance to walk around and see the beautiful stalactite and stalagmite formations close up. Also at Aktun Chen is the chance to get up close and personal with snakes at to the serpentarium.
- Cozumel Island- A 45 minute ferry ride from Playa, Cozumel Island is a great way to spend a day of snorkelling, shopping or simply relaxing on the beach. The ferry trip itself is a scenic journey and great opportunity to get out onto the water.
- Punta Laguna – If you’re a wildlife fan then you will be in your element in Punta Laguna. In this nature reserve, you can expect to see spider monkeys, crocodiles, deer, birds and turtles. You can see the area on foot by trekking through the jungle or by boat.
- The Cedam Maritime – If you are looking to soak up some history of the area and see ancient artefacts, then The Cedam Maritime won’t disappoint. The coast has a long history of shipwrecks, which you are able to hear about and see the wreckage from vessels dating back hundreds of years.
- Labnaha Eco Park & Diving – Labnaha Eco park is a must see for people with an adventurous side. Go diving with tropical fish or have a go on the zip line. Also at Labnaha is cave diving training or for experienced divers, the chance to go off and explore the underwater caves alone.
- Tulum – Tulum is the site of a Mayan city and offers excellent viewing of old ruins. It was the last city built and inhabited by the Mayan people and existed between the 13th and 15th centuries.
- Swimming with Dolphins – Few people ever have the chance to get up close and personal with dolphins. There are a number of companies offering swimming experiences and for extra, you can even become a trainer for the day.
- The Beaches – Playa del Carmen offers some of the most pristine beaches in the world and no top ten list could leave them off. Find your own spot, get a tan, go swimming and relax. You are on holiday after all.
