Ah, London! City of contrasts and vast opportunities. There is simply no better place to go this year than in London. The travel predictions for London in 2014 are looking towards “poshtels”, the arts, cycling foodie fests, and more!
With a spate of luxury hotels springing up in London like mushrooms after summer rain, London is set out to have a 2014 filled with tourists on the lookout for luxury stays.
There have been quite a number of posh hotels (often referred by the moniker “poshtels”) opening up or being refurbished into bigger and better versions of themselves. Needless to say, tourists are going to be buried in luxury options out of which to choose from. Even the former Labour Party Headquarters was repurposed into a poshtel in 2013. At the rate things are going, the Queen might have some poshtel neighbors sooner or later.
Another staple of the year will be gastronomical tourism, entertained via the notion of gastrotels, which have been popping in every corner of London from 2013 onwards.
2012 was the year of sport, and 2013 was the year of culture. In logical progression, now 2014 is the year of art, and London and its tourists are going to positively revel in it.
London’s Manchester Central Library is set to open in the spring of 2014, and it will include a library, a performance space, as well as exhibition and creative spaces such as BFI mediatheque. Another piece of noteworthy art news is the fact that Whitworth Art Gallery will reopen due to a £15m investment. The West End will feature six new British musicals taking its streets by storm and song. Outdoor art is also going to be a huge feature of 2014’s London.
Of course, this was all possible thanks to the efforts of VisitEngland. Thanks to them, tourists are going to have a lot to look forward this year if they are art lovers.
Another tourist attraction for 2014 London will have two wheels. It’s all about cycling this year, and people have been jumping on the saddle like their lives depend on it. The cycling market is growing 10% per annum every year, and will be worth an astounding £3bn by 2015! All of Britain is investing heavily in cycling infrastructure, and as thus, we can expect a lot of cycling events to happen in 2014.
L’Eroica, dubbed “the most handsome bike race in the world” is coming to Britain in 2014, and will bring with it a flood of cyclists, velo enthusiasts and tourists.
VisitEngland is also making 2014 heavily about the elements. They say they have noticed a definite touristic trend towards holidays that connect with nature and are all about man vs. the elements.
Recently, tourists and locals alike are going haywire over wild swimming, barefoot walking, trail running and so much more. We expect London will be flourishing with events that cater to that to cater to nature lovers…or travel trend jumpers!
There is also a lot to be commemorated in 2014, and it’s going to be one of London’s biggest 2014 travel trends. 2014 marks 100 years since the start of World War I. The Imperial Museum and over 1,400 partners will have a programmer dedicated to it across the country. Events will range from art to dancing, vigils and prayers, history visits and so much more.
London has a lot going on for it these years, and the trends we see coming might be the most exciting yet! To conclude, 2014 will be all about luxury food & hotels, as well as cycling, nature events, the arts, and commemoration.
Which one would you rather focus on this year?
