Have you ever traveled to Thailand? In case you haven’t been there you have to promise me that you will visit this wonderful country in the near future. The land of smiles has so much more to offer than beautiful Thai girlsand breathtaking landscapes.
Last year was the first time I traveled to Thailand and this year I had the opportunity to move to Bangkok for a couple of months. Living in this beautiful country is an experience that is worth more than a million dollars.
By living there I not only learned a lot about the culture, I also learned a lot about myself. I really hope that you consider this article as an inspiration to travel to Thailand and to experience the same form of inner transformation as I did.
Happiness without Wealth
Even though Thailand is not a poor place, it is pretty obvious that a lot of people earn less than in many Western European countries. I am from Germany and if you compare the salary of a typical employee in Germany and in Thailand, the difference is significant.
If you, however, compare the facial expressions of the typical German and Thai person, the difference is also significant. Whereas a lot of people in Germany and other Western countries walk around as if the world would end the next day, Thai people look a lot more satisfied, even though their material wealth is less.
There is an Alternative
Another thing that you will learn when you travel to Thailand is that the way you are used to do things is not the only way to do them. In the Western culture we are so concerned about safety and we have rules for everything. The fascinating thing is that everybody seems to accept them without questioning them at all.
Do we really have to have tens of thousands of hygiene regulations on food or could it actually be healthier to eat something from street stands that clearly don’t fulfill any hygiene regulations?
Do kids really have to be protected from any form of dirt or could it actually be healthy for them to come into contact with a little bit of dirt, in order to develop their body defenses?
Don’t think that the way you do it is the only way, before you have seen people who do it the other way around and who are still alive.
Having Fun is Important
Especially in Germany a lot of people focus solely on being efficient, working as much as they can and spending as little time with their family as they possibly can. In Thailand things are a little bit different.
The Thai mantra towards life is sanook, which basically stands for having fun. Traveling to Thailand will give you the chance to experience lifein a different pace. Sit back, relax and immerse into a culture that considers fun, family and happiness as more important than being as time-efficient and cost-efficient as possible.
Thailand will teach you that it is way more important to enjoy the moment than to constantly worry about the future. The fact that you might work harder won’t keep them from having way more fun in life than you.
I really hope I could inspire you to travel to Thailand and I also hope that you will learn a lot from visiting this amazing country.
