Are you an expat living in China? Should you learn chinese?

Why Learn Chinese?

Learning Chinese can be transforming – which can teach you a lot of things including the value of learning other languages.

But,why Chinese?

China is one of the most interesting places around the world. The country is fascinating and each visit can be enormously different considering their fast-paced progress. Apart from this, the country is also savoring the process of development and evolution – something that’s significantly interesting.

Fascinating China in mid-80’s

What makes China interesting is that in mid-80s it is still new to Cultural Revolution. It was the start of a big change but it cannot be predicted in many ways than one. Commercial life was small to nil and the people have just adapted to new styles and clothing.

Significant Change in 2006

China is also interesting in the way it embraces enormously huge changes. The mixture of old and new is simply exquisite and the use of modern technology is on the rise.

Many may think that learning Chinese is just functional so that daily life in China becomes less difficult. However, learning Chinese can make transformations in your life that can be quite overwhelming at first. It is a way – the most effective way – to understand the culture and be able to explain their behaviors and characteristics.

China and Mandarin

Sometimes, Chinese culture is excessively polite especially in table manners but it seemed very normal for them. You’ll learn how to pour tea for everyone in your company before you pour tea on your own cup. However, the politeness seemed to be in contrast to what you can see in public such as the shoving and pushing on the street.

Furthermore, the words “thank you” and “please” is spoken so little as well as any other polite softeners we normally use. For them, inserting polite words would mean inserting formality, which sometimes build a considerable distance between good friends or family.

Understanding Culture

The example given earlier – shoving and pushing on the street – is a vague description of how Chinese are as persons in public. This made them a little hard to understand.

By learning the language, you do not just define China as a unified nation where people are moving towards the same goal at a very fast pace. You can define them as people who work personall
y on achieving better lives.

Learning Chinese is but one of the languages that you should learn. The language opens the world to a lot of people – both children and adult alike. Even though Mandarin is not going to take the world, higher opportunities of work, communication and living can be achieved through learning it.
