Santa Marinella Beach
Santa Marinella is a small town in Lazio that is known to house the most famous beaches near Rome. Just like in Rome, a lot of people flock onto the coastline of Santa Marinella most especially during summer to savor a relaxing beach bathing. Santa Marinella is considered the busiest coastlines in Lazio region, thus, its stretch of sand is always packed with people. Both locals and tourists enjoy swimming and sunbathing at Santa Marinella because of the breathtaking sceneries it offers and the tranquil water it features. It can be reached through a 45 to an hour train trip from Rome. There are also a lot of fine seafood restaurants along the area; in fact, these restaurants are among the bests in Italy. You can as well find some good shops and bars in the small town of Santa Marinella.
Ostia Lido Beach
Ostia Lido Beach, also known as Lido di Ostia, is one among the most popular and the closest beach to Rome. It is popular for its clean water and dark sand. It may not be as grand and glamorous as the other high profile beaches near Rome, but rest assured that you can surely get a fair share of the sand and sun at the Ostia Lido coast. There are some public and private beaches along the area. Public beaches are a bit crowded and can be accessed for free. On the other hand, if you want a more private, more comfortable and less crowded beach area, you can choose to pay for a private beach entrance and rent an umbrella, a towel or even a beach chair. Ostia Lido Beach can easily be reached from Rome through the Metro Line B Roma-Lido local train. You can just train ride to the Piramide stop, and from there you can head directly to the beach by taking the Ostia-Lido trip that is heading towards the Cristoforo Colombo direction. It is located near Rome and also just nearby the famous ruins of Ostia Antica.
Sperlonga Beach
Sperlonga, also called as the “Italian Santorini”, is said to be the favorite summer vacation spot of the Emperor Tiberius’. It is situated at the southernmost area of the region of Lazio. It is known for its narrow streets and for its white and blue houses. It can be found on the Ulysses Coast and is popular for having the bright blue water beaches and the micro sand. At Sperlonga, you can rent a bike and explore the beaches yourself. You can as well enjoy hopping at the fabulous bars and cafes around the area.
You can get to Sperlonga from Rome through riding a metro at the Termini station. You can take the regional train that is heading towards the Fondi-Sperlonga station and from there you can ride a bus to the beach. The trip usually takes one to one and a half hours.
