Robben Island:
Located just off of the coast of Cape Town, Robben Island is the home of the prison Nelson Mandela was held captive for 18 years. It stopped being a functioning prison in 1996 and the island is now home to the Robben Island Museum, as well as a colony of penguins! It is worth a visit to learn more about South Africa’s fascinating and troubled history.
