Scuba Diving Guanaja, Bay of Islands, Honduras

The Bay of Islands hold a great historical importance as they were one of the first areas discovered by Christopher Columbus. The importance that these islands offer to Honduras now is mainly tourism based with much of that tourism relating to scuba diving in the Bay of Islands.

The Bay of Islands are home to scuba diving meccas such as Roatan and Utila. These are popular tourist destinations which have fantastic conditions for diving which have been visited and dove for years. An island which has until recently remained relatively undiscovered by the tourist masses has been Guanaja. Located not far from the other islands, Guanaja is home to the same crystal clear Caribbean waters as well as the warm temperature, colorful reefs, and plenty of marine life. Guanaja also has some fantastic white sand beaches which are always popular with divers and non-divers alike.

What makes Guanaja a better location for your scuba diving holiday is that its reefs remain remarkably pristine in comparison with other islands around. It has marine life still living amongst its shores that has long since vanished from neighboring islands. It has a number of Cays surrounding it as well which are home to some fantastic hotels and resorts.

One of the more interesting Cays around Guanaja is Grahams Cay. Grahams Cay is located about 2 kms off the coast of the main island of Guanaja and is home to Grahams Place. A small resort which features guest homes and the newest dive shop in the area, Guanaja Divers. Guanaja Divers has teamed with some of the most experienced scuba diving instructors and divemasters in the region to bring world class scuba diving experiences to Guanaja.

With friendly staff, great instructors, pristine reefs, wreck and wall dive options, and all of the PADI courses and instruction options that divers interested in continuing their diving education could want. Being partnered with Grahams Place allows divers to be able to stay in very comfortable accommodations while enjoying their stay in the Bay of Islands. Grahams Place also has a small area which is home to some resident turtles and rays that are always popular for guests of the hotel to see.

When planning your next vacation to Honduras’ Bay of Islands we encourage you to think outside the box and consider the smaller and less well known island of Guanaja.
