UAE is indeed filled with many wondrous things and activities but perhaps one of the hidden gems it has to offer is fishing. Indeed, you may not always think of fishing when it comes to activities in the UAE but there is plenty of variety here. And if this has interested you, then here are ten tips for you.
What fish?
UAE has plenty of fish species and sites to offer. So if you are interested in a particular kind of fish, then you must take the time to read up on the habitat and find out which place offers you the best chance to catch this species. Some of the species that you can look for in the UAE are:
- Queenfish
- Barracuda
- Cobia
- Yellowfin Tuna
- Amberjack to name just a small handful.
What gear?
Choosing high quality gear is one of the best ways to enjoy fishing in UAE. It would be wise to consult with expert fishermen and check online sources of information to select such gear.
Safety first
Fishing may not seem like a dangerous sport but there have been quite a few instances of people falling off boats or even getting fish hooks caught in parts of their body. Therefore it is extremely important to adhere to safety rules and use things like safety gear, life vests and so on.
Local rules
Recreational fishing needs licenses too. It would be a good idea for you to apply for such a license before you embark on your fishing trip. These processes may differ slightly from Emirate to Emirate but in most cases, you can apply for the same online. Catch and release may also be a rule that applies in most places.
Go with a group
Going fishing with a group of people who are fishing enthusiasts may be one of the best ways in which you can enjoy this trip. This may also net you some great deals on prices of hiring a fishing boat.
Lure them in
It may be a very small component of your equipment or gear but choosing the right lure can make all the difference in your success as a fisherman. Simple rule of thumb – dark waters – bright lures, light sky – light colored lures.
What time?
You must choose the time of your fishing very carefully. Experts suggest that it is good to follow the 30 minutes rule. This means 30 minutes after:
- Moonrise
- Moonset
- Sunrise
- Sunset
Patience is everything
You have to wait for the fish to take the bait. And this is best done when you are waiting, surrounded by friends and fellow-fishermen. Enjoy the beautiful waters of UAE and catch some amazing fish.
Knowhow
Learning how to tie the right knots, cast lines, reel in the fish and even how to decide where to fish can make a huge difference to UAE fishing trip. It would be very useful for you to learn the ropes, so to speak, before you head out.
Location
If Abu Dhabi is best for Groupers then Ajman might give you Barracuda. Also, it is important for you to keep fishing seasons in mind. Ajman is great for groupers between the months of October and May and Dubai is great for Barracuda all through the year.
